I’m a UX design and research expert helping organizations embrace human-centered design for over 20 years.

I received a Master's degree in Interaction Design from the pioneering UX design program at Carnegie Mellon University and went on to found and manage the User Interface team at Samsung’s Design Lab in Los Angeles. I left the LA Lab to become a partner and founding VP of Research Services at Gist Design, acquired by TrueFit Innovation in 2014. I’ve helped technology leaders such as Toyota, The Northern Trust, Ford, Bosch, and McDonald's create great user experiences for their customers.

My most frequent areas of practice are financial products & services, automotive, medical & fitness, and wearable consumer electronics. I’ve planned and executed major design, strategy, and research projects for many global enterprises and innovative startups alike. This includes both national and international initiatives that have afforded me the opportunity to engage hundreds of thousands of research subjects around the world to inform design strategy.

Some of my most recent engagements include:

  • Northern Trust and I designed and built an entire case management system for global banking operations – from the ground up. I led 3 years of in-depth design research, design strategy, and business analysis, and represented UX during agile low code development.

  • Bain Capital Ventures and I explored investment managers’ attitudes, preferences, and habits related to their business workflows and supporting toolsets in order to identify opportunities for more efficient and effective management of investment opportunities.

  • Denso and I conducted a major research-driven initiative to set the design strategy for the automobile of the future for three major automotive OEMs. I assembled and led an advisory panel of national thought leaders in the fintech, automotive, behavioral science, and design domains. I led multiple Design Thinking workshops with international constituents within Denso’s engineering, software, design, and business strategy areas. And I designed and conducted several primary research projects collecting end-user perspectives in the North American market.

In addition to my design and research consulting practice, I actively explore experimental and conceptual design. I’m currently writing a forthcoming book about the profound and radically human-centered design of the Shakers.
